How to be Green Minded

For businesses and organisations:

Green Minded can offer a wide range of services for your business. Many busy organisations do not have the time or expertise to takes steps to be more environmentally and socially responsible, and this is where Green Minded can help.

Karen Gardham at Green Minded can provide an honest and objective view of your business and its operations, and help you plan and implement positive actions around sustainability. These will be integrated into your business, rather than being an “add-on” that no one has time to work on.

* Did you know you can get up to £1,000 of government funding for training and capacity building for your organisation's leadership and management? See Train to Gain for more information. *

Sustainability Taster

This service offers a short summary of your organisation, using a site visit, meetings and information you gather about your organisational performance. You will receive a short report highlighting areas to focus on and recommending a framework within which to take action. You can either take this forward yourselves, or work with Karen to assess and address sustainability.if you go on to take up our Sustainability Package, this session is free.

Our Sustainability Package includes Policy and Action Planning, and Training - see details below

Audit

If you have completed the taster option, or you have already decided that you want a full assessment of your performance, an audit is for you. If you want to improve your impact on the environment you need to know what your current performance is.  What are you currently achieving, and where are your gaps? A full audit of your operations will identify a baseline for you to improve from, highlight the areas that need more work, and provide you with a tangible way of illustrating your improvements. Or you may opt for a subject specific audit e.g. a waste audit or measuring your carbon footprint.

Policy and Action Planning

In order to make lasting change, it is essential that actions become part of your core business. Karen can work with you to develop a sustainability policy and accompanying action plans which can be embedded in your operations, rather than being seen as a specific project - sustainability is a process of continual improvement. This process will also ensure there are no contradictions with existing policies.
It is recommended that you accompany this package with the training and communication package, in order to bring your sustainability policy to the heart of your organisation and change its culture.

Training

Communication is essential to creating change in an organisation. Lets face it, sustainability is just a piece of jargon to most people. Structural changes can greatly improve your performance, but if your staff aren’t considering their impact this will greatly inhibit the changes you can make. Karen is an experienced trainer, and can develop full and half day training specific to your requirements, or has standard training packages on offer. To begin to spread awareness and get your staff to start asking the right questions, the lunchtime seminar package may suit your needs. This is exactly how it sounds - a 1 - 1.5 hour session in a relaxed environment where staff learn to understand how to tackle their environmental impact and can ask questions.

Regular public training sessions on sustainability issues are also run.

Project management

Karen is a qualified project manager, and has many years experience of project management. Whether you have a large or small project arising from your sustainability actions, she can help you bring them to life by managing the process. This might include an awareness campaign for your customers and staff, setting up an employee volunteering project, researching new methods of operating, or forming partnerships with other organisations across sectors to achieve a common aim. Please discuss your particular project with Karen to identify how she can help.

Sustainability Mentoring

You may have staff already working on sustainability within your organisation. If they are working alone or in a small team, they would benefit from mentoring from an external sustainability expert. Karen, who is a trained mentor, can use her skills to provide support and advice to your member of staff, and help them to successfully embed sustainability in your organisation.
